One of my most loved and well-read post is “Ranking my Favorite Foundations” post. Like most people, I too am most keen on foundations. They can be the priciest beauty products to spend money on, and also the most difficult to find the right one for you. The hardest parts of picking the right foundations are: choosing the right shade, coverage, finish, and length of wear.
That said, I haven’t been able to put up a foundation review in the longest time, partly because I’ve been loving the same foundations that I featured on that blogpost. Today, I’m going to be talking about the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation 12-hr Full Coverage foundation, a fairly recent foundation that I purchased, and let you in on how I feel about it!
I like it. This is great for oily skin and sensitive skin. The texture of the foundation itself almost feels like whipped cream and gel-like cream (almost, but not exactly) – somewhere between the two. It is long-lasting and for oily skin, the finish nice and matte.
It says full coverage. It definitely is on full. You can see it the minute you squeeze a little on the back of your palms. But I still prefer my Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation. The Estee Lauder has better coverage.
Matte. There’s no chance for glow with this one. For those who are oily, this can be a plus! It can actually mean you can wear highlighter and not look shiny all over! 🙂
This is definitely long-lasting, probably a good 12-hours as they say and I’m really oily and it has lasted me pretty much that long! So this is a definite PLUS.
I bought the shade “light sand” which was a bit too light for me. It has yellow undertones and I didn’t mind the shade too much because it brightened my face, but I probably could’ve gone a shade darker. They have a wide range of choices, which is good.
What I don’t like:
I bought this foundation with the intention to return it, nothing having a high expectation for it. But surprisingly I liked it because it was so gentle on my sensitive skin and also so long-wearing without itching my skin or making my skin feel heavy.
- However, it does give the face a pretty “packed” looked. Though my skin felt light, it definitely didn’t look light. The finish is full coverage and it looks pretty obvious. I just feel like there are other foundations that give higher coverage and give a more natural finish (aka again, my Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage foundation).
- Blendability: This thing is pretty hard to blend. I tried using the BeautyBlender, stippling brush, and Real Techniques‘ Expert Face brush. I’m torn between preferring my hands and the expert face brush. But even with all these, this is hard to blend for a natural finish.
Would I recommend? Yes! I love the long wear of it (one of the best) and how kind it feels on the skin. Are there foundations that are better in terms of coverage and finish? Yes.
